Fire chiefs encouraged to send Explorer Posts to 2005 conference
Fairfax, Va., January 13, 2005…The International Association of Fire Chiefs encourages fire chiefs to register their Exploring posts for the 2005 National Fire/Emergency Services Exploring Conference at Texas A&M University, to be held June 20–24, 2005.
At the conference, Explorers will compete in both individual and team competitions, such as wildfire shelter deployment, arson investigation, room search and the Candidate Physical Ability Test. The conference also offers seminars on topics of interest to future fire fighters and emergency services professionals. Explorers will learn about USAR K-9 rescue, careers in the fire service, new EMS technologies, arson investigation and more.
“The experience these Explorers gain through this conference is really remarkable. The best part is that while they’re learning how to become the next generation of the fire service they are having the time of their lives,” said Julian Taliaferro, IAFC treasurer and chief of the Charlottesville Fire Department.
Explorers will have the opportunity to meet with and learn from leaders in the fire and emergency services, and to establish relationships with other Explorers from all over the nation. The conference is a great opportunity for those interested in the fire and emergency service to gain more knowledge and skills and to make new friends.
“We know that many fire Explorers go on to have long, successful fire service careers,” said Garry Briese, executive director of the IAFC and National Chairman, Fire and Emergency Services Exploring Program for Boy Scouts of America. “This conference is so important to the fire service because it always generates more excitement about fire fighting.”
The 2005 National Fire/Emergency Services Exploring Conference will be held from Monday, June 20 to Friday, June 24, 2005 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The cost is $350 per person and all participants must be registered members of an Exploring post.
